I bought a small can of dark brown pain and went to town. I put on only one coat, so the natural wood (or simulated wood paneling, in the case of the dresser) is still kind of visible under the dark brown paint (which was my goal). Also, I replaced the awesome hardware with something a little more earthy.

Old dresser and mirror makeover.
I bought this dresser almost three years ago when I first moved to Boston for 20 US dollars (off Craigslist). The dresser was cheap and had scratches all over. Please note the lovely circa 1970's hardware.
I inherited this mirror from a former roommate:

Total cost: paint (~$15.00) plus hardware (~$18.00) = ~$33.00

ReplyDeleteAwesome, Laura! I am so impressed. Oh, the joys of spray paint. I can't wait to see more projects from you!
ReplyDeleteOh, that looks fantastic. Now you can come do my TV armoire. Can you make it look like it costed us a million dollars instead of the $15 we paid for it?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments. Sarah and Kim, what in the world are you doing being functional at 6:43 am?
ReplyDeleteP.S. Yes, Cami, I can make it look like it "costed" a million dollars. I have a can of spray-on metallic gold, to be featured in a subsequent post...
ReplyDeleteI have skills!
ReplyDeleteWhat color is the paint? Would it work for a head and foot board that I bought at a garage sale? I really like it!
